Looking for an easy way to create small Forum for free

My distinguished geeks, gurus and n00bs.

Our family is spread in 3 continents, 8 countries. We are about 70 people, now using Yahoo Groups to keep in touch.

I'm looking a better system that would allow registered users to create and edit a profile, create photoalbum, post, reply and where you can turn email notifications on and off.

Does somebody know a freeware product / forumsite?

    All tips appreciated.

With SMF, do you need to buy a domain?

yeah, you would still need to buy a domain and hosting.

Something totally free would be - Create your free forum - FORUMOTION - Free forums hosting!

I think so, too. We've had it now over 5 years, using Yahoo Groups, but I'd like to change it. Yahoo Groups can't really be modified as we would like to have.

John, I checked those two you mentioned. Both look nice and easy, both offer a Finnish language version. That's very important, the older generation living back in Finland can only Finnish.

Could you please tick this as solved.

Been studying FORUMOTION admin panel, it is surprisingly easy to use. That is important, allows me to give mod rights to some of my cousins because it's so self explaining there is no need to have experience.

FORUMOTION also allows us to use our own domain, which I registered already over a year ago but it's never been used.

This was a good example how wonderful thing Internet and forums like our SF are. Less than two hours after asking my question I have a working forum online with first 7 users. Sitting in Germany, I got a tip from England, put up a forum and now some family from Finland, Crete (Greece) and Spain have already registered.

    Life could be worse!
