Are age-related jokes past it? Sorry about the weak attempt at a pun in the title, but a report in today's newspaper reckons that jokes related to older people are, well, just a joke and that we should refrain from repeating them.
Well, I belong to the older fraternity and I reckon that when the day comes that we can't laugh at ourselves, we might just as well wrap it all in.
Laughter is the best medicine and as they say, the old ones are the best ones.
Here's a few examples: - Three elderly men, who are all a little deaf, are standing by a bowling green. One remarked to the other: 'Windy, isn't it?' 'No,' the second man replied, 'it's Thursday.' The third man nodded in agreement: 'So am I. Let's have a cup of tea.'
- A woman went to her doctor and said: 'I've got a bad back.' The doctor replied: 'It's old age.' The woman said: 'I want a second opinion.' 'OK,' replied the doctor. 'You're ugly as well.'
- My uncle was 83 and wanted to marry a girl of 19. The doctor said: 'This could be fatal.' He said: 'If she dies, she dies.'

Laugh,and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone. Since I know you're no spring chicken either, the humor doesn't bother me, but if it was one of the kids around the forum posting, I would feel differently about it.

I may feel mentally tired and worn out (at 23), but I can only imagine what it would be like to actually be up there in age and falling apart. Maybe now I think, "Ah, big deal, I can laugh at myself now so I'm sure I'll keep this same sense of humor then". But perhaps when I actually step foot in the realm of "overripeness" (yes, I think there's a time when people might choose to just want to die, given there's not much left that they're able to do (Kevorkian anyone?)), I'll feel a bit more sensitive towards the fact that I am surely dying sooner than later, and that all I have left is my failing senses, and will not accept the same jokes then as I would now. They might possibly make me very sad and bitter at youth, also. I don't know. . .
But hey, I'm going to end up killing myself anyways, so I won't have to worry, heh. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Mine OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU AMD FX-8150 Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Memory Corsair Vengeance Dual-Channel 1866MHz 8GB (2x4GB) Graphics Card x2 Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 2GB in SLI Sound Card (Onboard) Realtek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays Dynex 42 inch HDTV Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Wireless Solar K750 Mouse Logitech Wireless M305 PSU Kingwin KX-1000 Case Corsair Carbide 500R Cooling Corsair H100 Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 2TB (SATA);
