Skanks In NYC Blogger Rosemary Port Suing Google For $1
Liskula Cohen has dropped her $3 million defamation suit against a blogger she accuses of defaming her name through an online smear campaign — just as the outed blogger readies a suit of her own against web giant Google.com.
The Vogue model successfully sued Google.com bosses to identify the once-anonymous blogger as Rosemary Port. The 37-year-old model filed a defamation in the form of a libel and intentional emotional distress’ suit, claiming Port had written derogatory comments about her on the Skanks In NYC blog.
The Skanks in NYC blog, which branded Cohen an “old hag” and a “ho,” was launched in August 2008 and shut down in March.
“This is about forgiveness. It adds nothing to my life to hurt hers. I wish her happiness,” Cohen told The New York Post on Friday.
Unfortunately for Google, Port isn’t in a forgiving sort of mood.
The 29-year-old student at Manhattan’s Fashion Institute of Technology is furious at Google for revealing her identity, so much so that she plans to file a $15 million federal lawsuit against the corporation.
“When I was being defended by attorneys for Google, I thought my right to privacy was being protected,” she told The New York Daily News on Sunday. “But that right fell through the cracks. Without any warning, I was put on a silver platter for the press to attack me. I would think that a multi-billion dollar conglomerate would protect the rights of all its users.”
Rosemary adds that Liskula Cohen has herself to blame for bringing attention to the Skanks site, remarking curtly that her arch-nemesis “defamed herself.”
“By going to the press, she defamed herself. Before her suit, there were probably two hits on my Web site: One from me looking at it, and one from her looking at it,” Port said. “That was before it became a spectacle. I feel my right to privacy has been violated.”
