Now I don't want to be seen as putting a dampener on this but if we eliminate all of the diseases - whatever then how are we going to cope with the population of the planet there are starving kids right now!

Sorry I know we all want to live to 150 years old etc but heck after what I have seen in my career I don't want to for one - at least not in it's current form of existence.

Before anyone thinks I am being plain awful well come work with me for a month and see if if it doesn't change your mind.

Just imagine a world without say spiders we would be buried in insects in no time flat! Harsh I might be perhaps - but in my mind being realistic.

Here in Louisiana we have lots of mosquitoes and we spray a lot of insecticide in the air during the summer. In fact the spray vehicle came by last night and puts out a large fog. When I was a kid we use to ride our bikes in the fog as we thought it was fun.
Had an article in local paper this week about a collapse of a bee hive and it is believed that the mosquito spraying may have cause the problem. I enjoyed the video and may have to get some stinky cheese to bunch the mosquitoes away from me.

Which begs the question again of is the cure worse than the affliction.

Like you Phone man I live in a rural area and they spray crops and animals for all sorts of parasites and there is no way anyone can convince me that those chemicals do not come through in th food chain.

The area around the small town I live in has one of the highest rates of Parkinson's disease - of a type that I cannot remember seeing during my earlier years of training. Plus there seems to be a high incidence of brain tumours as well.

Now I also have the theory that because out weather patterns in the Eastern seaboard travel in the main from the west that it therefore has the propensity to pick up known carcinogens and harmful chemicals that are sprayed further to our west. Not only that but at a place called Maralinga they used to test atomic devices plus whatever is picked up and carried on the upper atmosphere jet streams from another notorious place called Wittanoom where they mined asbestos for many many years.

So in my mind although I do detest mosquitoes and there plenty around where I live I can assure you - I think there are far more risks from what we do to increase our profits and make "profitable" products than what is caused by those rather irritating insects.

I hate seeing kids suffer and die from anything but I truly think we are pushing the barrow up a very step slope if we think we can eradicate malaria.

Well we've managed to genetically alter all our food and feed seed sources, pollute our water source, seas and oceans, and screw up our soil, why not pesticide ourselves at the same time. Hell when the asteroid hits or the earth switches it's rotation axis the only life that will survive will be plants and insects. And man will be just a little blip on the cosmic radar !

Totally agree linnemeyerhere we have done a good job eh? so much so it reminds me of an experiment I saw some years ago where they let one male and one female mouse into a large closed environment - plenty of living space, food and water and just let them go for it.
The results were in my mind what is happening here to humans the only difference is that we have the supposed intelligence to not let happen what happened in the mouse experiment which ended up in a situation where there was never enough food or water however much the researchers put inti this "environment" It was and still is in my mind quite a scary prospect.
It had to be terminated as the mice were actually eating each other despite the food that was supplied - there was never enough.

What makes me mad is that we as westerners waste so much food while a sizable number of the earths human population lives at or near starvation level.

Yes there is lots of waste but we also grow and give millions of tons of food and billions of dollars to aid people all over the world. Problem is the greed and ineptitude of those whom manage or control these poor souls in need. It really is the same all over......those that should be limiting their populations for resource and economic reasons only have sex as a outlet and have such an explosion of youth that the land, government, food and water resources can't support them.

Yes linnemeyerhere I agree 110% I have grave doubts about how much of the money that is collected for aid actually gets to where it is supposed to be for. I for one have stopped any donations to anything as no one can convince me that those people on the end of a phone, in a TV or paper ad and even the media themselves do it for nix.
I mean if I thought for one moment one of the larger foundations and I reckon you can guess which one actually collected a dollar that even 90c would get through then it might make me change my mind but I doubt very much it would come close to that figure.
I remember a few years ago a famous singer out here in Australia coming to a local town for a "charity" concert for sick kids at Christmas time and then finding out afterwards he charged $6000 for the privilege - that finished me I'm afraid - sick wretch!!

Such good intentions are soon mixed with the human condition greed. We of course have wonderful examples of pure philanthropy but you still have to have people around you to manage and distribute the money, food or products. It can and is being done and of course a percentage must go to those that can't just volunteer there time. I'm not sure what percentage then would become acceptable as each organization is built differently. I would just hope that the percentage getting to the victims is always higher than 50%, if fear that this is rarely if ever achieved?

Yeah thats what I mean L I wouldn't expect anyone to do it for nothing even if it were just a meal or small remuneration but I can't imagine for one minute the phone / TV companies giving it away for nix - I reckon they would get the advertising if nothing else.

Plus you are so right where there is money there is always going to be temptation and outright greed one only has to look at politicians for example - personally if it were me (and I am not saying they are all the same) if I were paid a really handsome salary and benefits for what I was doing then it wouldn't enter my mind to dip my hand into the till so to speak not for money or favours or whatever.
It always gob smacks me that there are individuals that do that and what makes me even more angry is the fact that they almost always get away with it or a slap across the wrists. Even if they were terminated they still hang on to all the benefits of their employment agreements - I certainly wouldn't as a registered nurse I would be struck off and lose my super annuation and any entitlements that would be due in retirement. A case in point is some of the CEO's of large corporations who lose the plot and still get a golden handshake now how darn sick / obscene is that??

You're spot on and yes it is obscene. I only hope that Karma kicks in and those that have lived a responsible and honorable life will live with hearts and happiness that the golden handshakes don't understand and can only purchase poor facsimiles of with there ill gotten gains.
