Annoyed with Logitech over my broken Harmony remote control
As a general warning to anybody considering the purchase of a Logitech Harmony remote control, while functionally these things are great and a breeze to program, I can say without question that they are very, very fragile and simply don't hold up to any type of normal remote wear and tear.
Based on a recent support experience with Logitech, I am no longer in good faith willing to purchase another one of their products, nor recommend the purchase of any one of their products to and friends, family, or acquaintences. If you are in the market for a nice universal remote control, but have ever dropped your remote, sat on your remote, or otherwise lost your remote in the cushions of your furniture, I would recommend against the Logitech Harmony remote controls, particularly those with an LCD screen.
I previously owned a logitech Harmony 670 and had repeated problems with the screens...1 flat out didn't work out of the box. Logitech was great and replaced them. Think I ended up with 4 remote total over the course of about 18 months.. When my last one finally died, and was out of warranty, I decided to just bite the bullet and bought a $200 Harmony One Remote.
That remote lasted about 6 months to the day before the LCD screen crapped out. Logitech tells me that the screen suffered extreme stress and broke and therefore my warranty is void. However, there is absolutely 0 damage to the outside of the remote and physically the buttons still work on the LCD screen, I simply cannot read them. I find it VERY hard to believe that the screen could have suffered this much damage, but still be functional, with 0 external damage.
It seems I am not the only one to suffer from the extremely fragile LCD screen. Tons of people on Amazon had same issue. Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote. Seems that Logitech simply leaves us high and dry.
The other consumers got offered a 50% discount coupon towards the purchase of a new remote control. I on the other hand, got absolutely nothing.
So, I have vowed to Logitech to ensure that I can warn as many people as possible to reconsider any Logitech purchases, as the company has demonstrated to me that they are not willing to support their products very well, even if designed in such a way that with normal use the products break.
In the case of my remote control, it was working at night, we put it into the charging dock. Took it out of the dock later and the screen was out. The dock sits on a shelf where the kids, and animals cannot get to it. It wasn't dropped, stepped on, sat on, or otherwise abused.
So, that is all.
