By definition; fiber optics, theoretically speaking is supposed to be up to 10 times faster than cable. It is also very pricey and only in limited areas of the country (USA)...it's not mainstream yet. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 6790 D Sound Card On board RealTek HD Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors:Samsung SyncMaster S20B300 Screen Resolution 1600 X 900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Ultra X4 750 watt fully modular Case Thermaltake Overseer RX 1 full tower Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

I have the AT&T Uverse fiber optic thingy. I have my phone and the internet in a package. I believe the internet is about $42 which is not too bad. I wouldn't say it is super fast, but is good. == I was talking to AT&T about something else and they always try to sell you something. At the time I just had DSL. They told me they would give me the Uverse with free installation and it was $5 a month cheaper. Two installation guys came to my house, spent four hours on the free installation and I ended up paying them $5 a month less. It just makes me wonder how they can make any money that way. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit - Build 7600 SP1 CPU Intel Core i3-2120 3.30Ghz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 Socket H2 ATX Memory Kingston 4 GB DDR3 1333 mhz Graphics Card Zotac GeForce 9400 GT 512MB Sound Card Sound Blaster Audigy SE 24-Bit Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Sync Master 940 = 19 inch Screen Resolution 1440 X 900 Keyboard Microsoft Natural 4000 Mouse Microsoft Custom Optical 3000 PSU 500 watt Case NZXT Apollo - Silver with Clear Side Panel Cooling Three 120 mm Fans Hard Drives OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB Sata 3 SSD ==

If it's not talking speeds in this range Verizon doubles FiOS speeds to 300Mbps, thumb-twiddling waits are officially over -- Engadget
then it's probably just some jazz that mentions "fiber optic" because something in the backbone or network is on fiber. If it's real FIOS you should get download speeds that blow everything else away. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Media Center OS Windows 7 32 bit CPU AMD 5200+ dual core Memory 2 GB Graphics Card NVidia GeForce 6150SE 128 MB Monitor(s) Displays CRT Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard PS/2 Mouse PS/2 Wheel Mouse Hard Drives 500 GB Sata internal :

Comcast is faster. And as you mention, they give you extra speed. I started at 6megs, and still pay the same. I average 22 Megs up and 4+ down.
