By definition; fiber optics, theoretically speaking is supposed to be up to 10 times faster than cable. It is also very pricey and only in limited areas of the country (USA)...it's not mainstream yet.

I have the AT&T Uverse fiber optic thingy. I have my phone and the internet in a package. I believe the internet is about $42 which is not too bad. I wouldn't say it is super fast, but is good. == I was talking to AT&T about something else and they always try to sell you something. At the time I just had DSL. They told me they would give me the Uverse with free installation and it was $5 a month cheaper. Two installation guys came to my house, spent four hours on the free installation and I ended up paying them $5 a month less. It just makes me wonder how they can make any money that way.

Right. If it's not talking speeds in this range
Verizon doubles FiOS speeds to 300Mbps, thumb-twiddling waits are officially over -- Engadget

then it's probably just some jazz that mentions "fiber optic" because something in the backbone or network is on fiber. If it's real FIOS you should get download speeds that blow everything else away.

Comcast is faster. And as you mention, they give you extra speed. I started at 6megs, and still pay the same. I average 22 Megs up and 4+ down. A Guy

So with Comcast switching to only digital does that mean any 3rd party tuners are worthless. My dad is complaining now he can't record his tv shows. Short of renting the overpriced dvr what else can he do?

Anyone here using Comcast Highspeed Internet?
Just curious about Comcast's 250GB monthly usage limit. I've almost reached it (237GB) and was wondering what time it resets. If anyone knows that'd be great. Thanks.

Comcast, And Downloading Limit.
Hello, Guess my son was going wild with the downloading stuff, and Comcast called to complain, and tell me, in no uncertain terms, that their limit is 250 GB per month. "Or else". Of course, they have no application that would enable one to monitor the usage, although I did find some on the...
