Running Handbrake 24/7 to transcode movies from my physical disc collection to my external ~10TB array of disks...

Gaming on lower end settings (Believe it or not the Core 2 Duo is still quite a the performer in games since most PC games are just simple console upports, time is running out though, when the new consoles arrive, the minumum benchline would be a quad core and a mid to high end DX11 card for PC gaming)

Surfing the net, and Watching transcoded videos.

It gets quite hot, so i've got a Coolermaster Cooling Pad to handle the heat. Wish I had a Zalman NC series, but they don't sell it where i live..

Most of the time I could do with a machine with an eight of the spec, browsing, emails, videos, music etc.

But I also do a bit of video encoding, run VM's etc.

But mostly my specs are high for when I play games. When I play, I like my eye candy and I like it to be smooth :)

It's like having a performance car as a daily driver. Most of the time it's under utilized but when I get the urge to plant my foot - it goes

Only gaming justifies the dough I forked over for this rig. If I wanted the usual email/work/porn setup I'd have gone with something more modest and much cheaper.

Sadly, my 400$ laptop has all the publisher/word/powerpoint/paintshop stuff on it, but it doesn't do too bad. I use it at the office and would never think of bringing my "fat boy" over there. Its my baby.

The laptop takes a little longer than my $$ rig, set up simply for gaming, but I'm fine. I surf on all the computers I ever touch. Favorite games right now are Civ V and DA II. So, the story of my life, right? Oh, and of course I spend more money whenever I encounter a problem, using it as an excuse to upgrade, whether it be software or hardware related.

I used to keep accounts for the wife's garage/shop/petrol sales business(via MSExcel/Access/Word etc..)

I also mess with youtube, fb, skype, I slay the enemy in Skyrim, Diablo3, etc..
    - or am being constantly massacred in the (dreadfully unbalanced) Battlefield3..

sometimes I sketch (via Corel), listen to MP3's (via WMP), watch catch-up TV online (via WMC and iPlayer), mess with photos (via Samsung camera), do mobile phone stuff (via Galaxy S2)..

also, I read the news (from various sources), post on forums, chase up solutions to this and that..

    - usual sort of stuff..
