Interesting view of Apple versus PC Quote: Microsoft was just hanging around like a lame duck for a while. Sitting on their large install base and just lived of that. The last two years it finally realized that it is time to catch up to Apple again to not be extinct. A great visualization of that is the trend of Multiple of PCs sold vs. Macs. http://www.i4u.com/51024/dramatic-pcs-versus-mac-sale-ratio-trend-shows-windows-8-needs-be-huge-success | My System Specs |

Quote: The high point of Microsoft OS domination was 2004 with 54x. Since then its a drastic steep decline to 18x in 2010. In 2010 people bought 18 PCs for every 1 Mac.
Like all statistics this one requires some deeper analysis. Consider that: - in 2004 most computer users had desktops not laptops.
- in 2004 Apple was just coming up out of the rubble of near collapse, while MS was riding high on the success of XP.
- in 2004 people were not using phones and tablets in place of computers.
This is not to discount the gist of the story which is legit and interesting. Only to point out that it may not be a case of "people like Apples more than PCs", but more like a picture of market economics changing. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built - Jan 2013 OS Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium SP1 CPU i7-3820 Motherboard Asus P9X79-PRO - Bios 3305 Memory GSkill F3-14900CL9Q - 16GB Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX660 - Driver 310.90 Sound Card On board Realtek ALC898 Monitor(s) Displays Acer S271HL Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard MS KC-0405 Mouse Intellimouse 5-button PSU Corsair CMPSU-850TX-V2 - 850 watt (by Seasonic) Case Corsair Obsidian 550D Cooling Standard 3 120mm case fans, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Hard Drives #1- Samsung 840 Pro Series

Could be that people are keeping thier pc's longer and Apple seems to come out with new os's that require a user to buy a new machine if they want to upgrade.
The chart probably doesn't include custom built pc's either, but that could be a small fraction of pc sales. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 3770K Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z77 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD6950 2GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

This is a wrong comparison. Windows PCs vs Macs + iPads + iPods + iPhones?
I would clearly draw a line between Macs and iOS devices since their capabilities are different. They should compare only Macs vs Windows PCs. If thats how they want to compare it, then they should be including all Windows Phone 7.X, Windows Mobile 6.X and every single Windows product (not limited to PCs). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 Pro / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

At the end if the article they state that if you factor in all of the apple products, the ratio drops to 2 to 1. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 3770K Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z77 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD6950 2GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

This may be true a while ago, but the prices for their iPads which can do those rather simple things is rather competitive compared to the others, and not exorbitantly so as compared to their MacBook Pros and their tower Xeon Based Macs
