For those following the recent developments at CERN, here is an interesting laymans description of the Higgs boson particle, and why its important.

Just adding something there, my friend :)

For those who are thinking that the God particle is something to do with the God, it is not the real fact. The name came differently. The name came from the book written by Lederman : The God Particle - if the universe is the answer, what is the question ?

Lederman was not supposed to provide that name, but he actually wrote it as "The Goddamn Particle" . But Dell Publishing House wanted a name that will me more catching . So the damn part gone from goddamn, and it stood as god only.

That little move turned to be an epic. :)

Its great how science has those sorts of moments. Another good example, is the "Big Bang" model of the universe - the term was coined by Fred Hoyle (the biggest detractor of what would become the Big Bang Model) who sarcastically referred to "this big bang model" in a radio debate in 1949.

I just watched a fairly lengthy documentary about this on Hulu a few days back, and never understood the significance of this, other than it seemed to the the holy grail of science. The question was asked repeatedly to one scientist after another, and not one of them could provide a clear answer. Yes, they were all enthusiastic about the subject, but did more stuttering than speaking clearly. The only thing that they made perfectly clear, was that they wanted a lot more money for their research.

I watch the same on Hulu. These star gazers have lots of theories and get lots of money for them. The great people many years ago with all the brains swore the earth was flat. Well that theory went to the crapper. If it all started with the Big Bang who or what made the Big Bang. If who or what did make a Big Bang what makes scientist think they can figure out something so strange and powerful that happened billions of years ago maybe. Hell they haven't figured what gravity is. We got it but what is it. I have a theory that their is antimatter it is politicians. Their is a Black Hole its Washington D.C. that sucks in all are money. If you want more of my theories it will cost you.
