Ernest Borgnine Died I doubt that too many on the forum will remember much about him, because he hasn't been on the screen much for years. I generally don't pay too much attention to Hollywood deaths, but this man was one of my favorite character actors. Even when playing a supporting role, he tended to stand out, and so remains in my memory. Gifted actor Ernest Borgnine died Sunday at age 95 (playBill blog by William Kerns) | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal | My System Specs |

Maybe the yournger crowd on this forum might know him better as the voice of Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants.
To me, he will always be remembered as Cmdr McHale from the McHale's Navy TV show from the 60's.
The man had an acting career that spanned 61 years, from 1951 thru 2012. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built, Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop OS Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Win 7 Pro (32-bit) CPU 3.4Ghz 3770K i7, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Motherboard Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H, Dell Memory 8G, 3G Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770, Mobile Intel 965 Sound Card High Definition Audio (Built-in to mobo) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2409W 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard IBM Model M - used continuously since 1986 Mouse Microsoft PSU Antec Case Antec 100 Cooling CM 212+ Hard Drives 128G SSD OS; 1.5T & 2T Data on Desktop, 320G for laptop Internet Speed 1.5M down 1.2M up :-( Other Info Also have an Acer Aspire netbook, a home-built AMD Dual core (Minecraft server) and home-built Pent 4 all running Win 7. Yes, McHales Navy wasn't one of my favorite shows, but I do have the complete series in my collection. Slowly but surely the actors and actresses I grew up watching in the movies and on television are passing away. He was in some of the old westerns when he first started out back in the 50s. About a week ago I saw an appearance by Kirk Douglas also 95yrs. old on a cable series that airs weekly.
Besides SpongeBob Ernest Borgnine had also costarred in the 80s series Airwolf as one of the later acting roles he had since McHales Navy sitcom airing back in the 60s. Some additional information on him naming his various roles can be looked over in the MSN Movie News page. He was always the "likeable" type in whatever role he played. He wasn't simply a talking robot onscreen but gave off a personality. That's what gave him the flexibility to act in many role types.
The MSN page also shows another favorite from the 50s-60s time frame who just passed away lately as well. Ron Howard leads tributes to late co-star Andy Griffith
Ron Howard was only a little guy when the Andy Griffith show aired way back when! RIP Ernest.
I was a big fan of Airwolf (and also Knight Rider with the talking Pontiac Trans Am, KITT) and he's a major contributer to why I kept on coming back to the show again and again, even as the plotlines started becoming more ridiculous in the later seasons... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL SXPS 1640 OS Windows 7 x64 Professional SP1 CPU Intel C2D T9550 2.66 GHz @ 2.793 GHz (Thanks ThrottleStop!!) He wasn't one of the actors in the Knight Rider series. He was the copilot with Jan Michael Vincent in Airwolf who played String.
The one thing for sure about E.B. however is you never saw him placed in any lame role! Too often you might see a big name stuffed into some lame script at times while that was never his misfortune. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-
