help desk job interview - background check problem

I have a interview tommorrow and have been having issues getting a job because of a some what lengthly background (criminal cases). Basically I have 7 misdemeanors and one felony. The felony is 6 years old and was for credit card abuse. I was convicted on the technicality of the law where it states: "Possession with intent to abuse/use". Not one cent was stolen, only the card.

I had a interview a few weeks ago now for a entry networking position and the background check came up and I did some what struggle with explaining my situation. On a scale of one(low) to ten(high) I'd say I struggled on a level of 7. I think I didn't get the jobs for a couple reasons, one being what I told them about my past. Another being my past itself and last but not least, the fact that they do work at an international airport, that being Philadelphia International.

I haven't been in any trouble since March 2011 and have since gotten my A+ certification , which was earlier this year, and am about to test on the 31st for my CCNA. I'm hoping I could get some good advice on how to proceed in my interview based on ya'lls personal experience, knowledge, ect.

    Thanks

Have you sought out methods to Expunge these items from your record?

Is this the only place you're using that username? Just wondering...

ha ya. i've modified it on other places. Ive read a little bit on expungement and I dont think I qualify. I had convictions before and after my felony, and based on that from what I've read, I dont qualify

It's tough to say, but given the employer, they probably are going to be strict. It's good you are staying out of trouble, but March of 2011 is going to be seen as recent history, all things considered.

On a side note, I live only a few miles from PHL airport.

    Have you at least tried?

You may just have to start in lower security places until you build a resume that has more positive attributes that outweigh your negatives.

We've all made mistakes, some take longer to overcome, just keep moving in the right direction.

The vast amount of people that have criminal records in the U.S. has made it necessary for programs to help people get back in the workforce.

I'm sure there are some near you if you look around.

There are/were programs that give/gave employers tax breaks for hiring certain ex-offenders. I'd look into that and maybe start looking for lower security type jobs for now. Most record checks go back 5 years minimum.

Im onna look into that. I have not sat down with a lawyer face to face or anything. I've read up on the definition of expungement in a couple different states that is really it. I guess I'll find a 800 line lawyer consult as a starting point and go from there.

Gotta start somewhere, just keep moving in the right direction, you'll get there. It's just a hurdle.

Ya. See I'm gonna hopefully have obtained my CCNA come July 31st. Although thats a better acolade then A+, I'm willing to take this entry help desk position that I'm interviewing tommorrow. I need to get experience so bad. The job description says I would be working the 'night shift' so I dont know if that might help any, plus I was referred to the job by the college I attend. Hoping for the best *-*
