I like the heavy horses. Bud does do good adverts.
Cheers
Background:
Usually when we take the car to my native Finland on our holiday trips we simply drive a few hours to Baltic Sea ports of Rostock or Lübeck and take a ferry, arriving 36 hours later in port of Helsinki, then drive the car into a car train and sleep one more night comfortably in train through Finland (over 1,000 kilometers in train). The whole trip takes a bit under three days, two nights on ferry and one on train. From total distance of over 3,000 kilometers we need to drive 450 kilometers to port in Germany, through city of Helsinki in Finland about 10 kilometers and finally 50 kilometers in Lapland from car train station to our goal.
Some years back I made a big mistake deciding to drive all the way from Leipzig Germany to Lapland in Finland, over Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia (route). It took 6 days (after Poland you really can't keep the average speed over 50 kmph), over 3,200 kilometers, half of it in these former east block countries.
I can promise you it was the first and last time I drove in Russia! I have seen the Russian driving habits myself, never been so afraid when driving. And not only that, we lost windscreen wipers and all four hubcaps (read: they were stolen) while having a short coffee break just before St. Petersburg.
Dashcams are extremely popular in Russia just because there happens so incredibly much, people want to be prepared for any possible questions from car insurers. I'm addicted in these thousands and thousands compiled dashcam videos you can find in Youtube.
Here's a good one:
I love these things. My roomies and I watch the russians duke it out on a regular basis.
To continue from my last post above, here's one of the Baltic Sea ferries we use regularly when going to Finland and Sweden with the car. Beats driving yourself :).
For those car guys out there.
