    Not windows - Android Tablet

    I know this is a windows forum, but I have just bought a tablet and am having problems, so before I ask a question I want to clarify;

1st does anyone know anything about android OS's ?

2nd Is it OK to ask such stuff on a windows forum ? (and is there a subforum for it?)

Hmmmmm! Good questions, no answers. . .:)

I have an iPod, hence helping you would be a little difficult.

Hopefully someone can give you an answer. Good luck

Think you better specify the problem(s), who know someone have the answer.

    Edit:
Btw, there is one thread discuss it, but surely I haven't read them all. See it for yourself. Android OS

    My problem is as follows.

I have just bought an Acer Iconia A500 (nearly new). I restored factory setting to get rid of the previous owners stuff. It is running on Android 3.1. There is now version 3.2, 3.3, and 4.0 available for this machine yet whenever I click on system update it gives a message saying that everything is up to date, and no updates are available.

There is an updated version of system update available but it needs android 3.2 to install, and Acers site is not listing any updates for this operating system even though they are available.

    What next ?

I'm not so familiar with Android OS but mostly all gadget on its release always mention to what level it is upgradeable. Any attempt to upgrade it in normal user mode mostly fail. I'm afraid you should stay with its current Android OS version.

I do have friends who are able to reinstall the Android OS to the latest if the hardware specs meet the requirement. But I have no idea how they do it.

Hope some other members have better solution you need.

Google is usually releasing android updates in different places in the world before another place. For instance, Jelly Bean will be available to certain devices in Asia before, for instance, Europeans. There might be an update available for your device, but maybe not in your area, unless your device is rooted and you're trying to apply the ROM of course.

If it is released in your country, make sure you're doing it on a wireless connection. On many android devices, if not everyone, it requires a wireless connection during the update.

    Best Regards,
    Frederik.

    FGail .. Great reply..
I have 2 different size tablets.. for different uses.
    1. Toshiba Thrive Tablet.. 10.3 " screen.. love it for many things , it's running Android 3.1 HONEYCOMB,
I've also had updates to it also.. they usually just show up near my clock , then I'll allow them to download , I then click to install, the poster above may have to find in setting where he can ck. that opition.
    2. Nextbook 8" Premium 8 se- Touch screen, tablet running Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich,
with a slot for a Micro- SD card (I've purchased a 8GB ) , this smaller tablet, I enjoy taking in my handbag, this tiny tablet has 4GB Flash Memory...etc
The smaller tablet will NOT work with my Google App Acct. for the Toshiba TTablet.

Both tablets are WI-FI.. I can log on at my Church, use my Bible on both Tablets..
I prefer the smaller one for this .

I forgot to mention NEXTbook / help/ website told me .. I shoud use Adroid Pit / Apk / Apps for my NEXTbook..
I've found and correct me if I'm wrong.. many thing now have both Apps for phones and Tablets.. just make sure you choose for Androids , since that's what your tablet has.
