In 1981 B&W TV made its debut in our city. And then a rush to buy VCRs.

The very first film we saw on our shining National VCR was a 1966 Tamil film and we would have replayed this number a thousand times. With the leading pair of that day B.Saroja Devi and M G Ramachandran - who later became the Chief Minister of the province - it still remains a hit and enthralls many.




Time period 1962 - 63 when I was doing my engineering. News came that a song was being filmed in the nearby woods with B. Saroja Devi in the lead. We - barring a few faithfuls - cut the classes and trekked 2 miles into the woods and there she was riding a bicycle with her group. And I was happy to relive those moments seeing that number on you tube after fifty years.



And ,yes, sometime around 1994-96, I saw her again in person - by that time she had retired from films after having acted in nearly 300 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi -in a marriage reception of a friend's son's marriage. She is eight years older than me and most of the actors with whom she paired those days are no more.
