Guess my heads as dense as the "white willow" bats......... cause I watched this (twice!!!) and STILL have no idea what this game is about

Love these old 40's/50's documentaries/newsreels. Thanks for posting
Hiyya mate basically like baseball only you can get out by catching (off the bat gloves or forearm), knocking those stumps over or at least dislodging the small bales on the top of them, leg before wicket (stumps) that is if the ball is going to hit the stumps and you miss the ball with the bat and your leg stops the ball then you are out, or you can get run out that is you hit the ball and don't make it to the other end before the fielders knock over the stumps. One run down the length of the wicket - 22 old yards, ball goes to the boundary rope = 4 runs and over the boundary in one clear movement = 6 runs.
The bowler has six bowls per over and it lasts until the team batting are all out. Then it's the other teams turn to bat.
The wicket refers to the players turn in to bat (his innings), the stumps, the piece of ground (usually rolled flat and hard) or sometimes in general terms the ground itself (playing area)
    Thats it in a nutshell.

Thanks..... that DOES clear it up some! The "wicket" had me bamboozeled more than anything. I saw them replacing the stumps in the video so figured they were important too. Is the game as popular these days as when this video was shot?
