At a previous job, there was a company director who insisted, no it isn't folklore, that his CD drive was a coffee cup holder. He ruined 3 CD drives in one month.

Who got fired ? The PC tech who told him to stop doing that.

I wasn't the PC tech at that job.
Wow... well, if I were that tech, I'd have explained (nicely) to him how the drive tray mechanism was designed to support a disk, not a coffee cup. But, if he preferred to use it as such, then just let him authorize the purchase of a case of CD/DVD drives so they could be rapidly replaced every time he breaks them. THAT would have been the PC thing to say.

Fools who insist on being fools should be allowed to do so if they have authority. It's foolish to even try to correct them. Eventually the folly of their ways will catch up with them.

Last night, I installed an SSD+HD hybrid drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows. I just finished loading up SP1 and SP2 onto it this morning. I then booted up and timed how long it took.

Previously, from a cold start to the desktop where I could actually start being productive (meaning start-up processes have finished), it took about 5 minutes. Now? Try 1.5 minutes.

The great thing about a hybrid is that you get near SSD performance and a lot more disk space for a lot less. I snagged a Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb for just $60 (after rebate) shipped. I wasn't ever planning to buy Seagate again, after experiencing two HD failures on some older Seagate drives, but the reviews have been very positive after the latest firmware revision. I'm hoping the thing turns out to be the gem it makes itself out to be thus far. :)

I have just brought this Vista Laptop from ebay.

    Acer Aspire 3055WXMI Laptop 2GHZ 1MB 80gb Windows Vista | eBay

I will use it maninly as a backup machine for checking my emails/forum etc when my main PC is either not working properly or busy doing something. It is something I have been intending on getting for ages, but I haven't been able to afford it before.

I will be looking at B&Q, PC World and Currys websites for jobs shortly.

^ Smart move on getting a spare laptop. There are some terrific used laptop deals to be had out there, even better with desktops. Having a spare computer is phenomenally convenient in case of system errors rendering your primary computer disabled or inadvertently lost/misplaced. I once left my parent's house in a hurry (they live over an hour away and separated by costly tolls) and accidentally left my laptop there. Thankfully I had a spare at home and all of my e-mail is on-line, so no harm done.

I agree with you it is a smart idea to have a spare. Like I said before I have been intending on getting one before but I haven't been able to afford it etc. The reason why it is a laptop rather than a tower is because I can keep a laptop in my wardrobe quite easily and I do not really have the room for a tower.

So ..... goodbye seven forums. Goodbye my home, goodbye my living room, my bedroom. My lost peace.

This post may be accepted as my resignation letter, and my account may be removed, please.

No, I am not punished, not forced to quit and not anything in this line. Actually I have got the highest level of affiliation in this place that a single member may dream. Got it equally, not only form my other fellow members, but also from the administrators, moderators and the other SF team members. Moreover, I am saying it clearly that John is one of the most wide-heart persons I have ever faced. I respect him, and salute him.

Lol, if I try to say the names of all the persons I love, adore and respect, this page will never end. As I said earlier, I hove got that, which a single member can dream.

Still, I am calling it a day. There is something which is much more valuable ... and that went over my bearing capacity. I am to go. Sorry.

I am not presently active in any other place. Not in any other forums, not in facebook, tweeter google+ or anywhere; and will never be. This is the dead end of Arc, Archie, Archan, by whatever name you have called me.

So good bye everybody. Take care. Wish a healthy and prosperous life for you all. The last request, please don’t wish the same for me. It is not possible for me.

    Love you all. Bye.
