Mars Curiosity Descent - Ultra HD 30fps Smooth-Motion
SourceThis is what space travel looks like in the YouTube era. Another amateur Curiosity enthusiast has served up a truly entertaining video of the NASA rover's landing on Mars after painstakingly enhancing compiled descent footage frame-by-frame to create a high-definition masterpiece.
Bard Canning's video, uploaded to YouTube on Thursday (see it embedded below), also includes an audio track that he apparently concocted to give Curiosity's descent a more visceral, if not exactly true-to-life feel for the viewer—the probe whistles as it drops down into the thin Martian atmosphere and the spacecraft's jets roar into life for the final approach to the surface.
At the end of the nearly three-minute video, after Curiosity has touched down, we see the rover's first glimpse of its new, desolate surroundings in the Gale Crater.
