tell me if im crazy :P -solder on gpu-

ill cut right to the place, i mean chase

i have a acer 5253 laptop amd fusion e350 with 6310 built in.

It sucks basically :3

i opened up the laptop and there is a space next to the cpu just waiting for a amd radeon 6470m (was an option when i bought) to be soldered onto. The acer driver page has 6470 drivers. so if i got a 6470m chip and soldered all the metal connectors together would it work?

Highly unlikely. For starters, the soldering is done by a very precise machine. You will not be able to meet that precision, and more than likely will short out some contact points or damage something.

After that, the motherboard may have a different ROM installed that won't recognize the GPU chip even if it is installed. The ROM can only be loaded at the factory, and may require replacing a motherboard chip.

Not to mention that you probably wouldn't be able to get the chip in the first place, except maybe by scavenging another board. In which case you would have to try to detach the solder, which is not designed to be possible.

I will call it as an option if it comes with ready chip socket installed (just like CPU). And a clear guideline provided by its manual. Go further without those stuffs, it certainly will make you call yourself crazy.

Ok here is more in depth.

My laptop motherboard.

Yellow is the slot for the 6470m (note it has little silver dots for the gpu to connect to
Green is the South bridge chip.
Red is the CPU+GPU.

on the acer website there is drivers for 6470m for my exact model. so a new bios to compensate for the new gpu would not be needed would it?

First of all, how do you plan on soldering it on? There's no room under the GPU to stick the solder gun

Don't they reflow (bake) those things on in a reflow station?
