Are wireless headphones any good?

Nothing at all wrong with them. Spend a few bucks if you want decent sound, if sound quality is not that important to you go the cheaper ones. I have these and for me they do what I desire, Bose QuietComfort 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones, a bit pricey for some people but good. Have a look through here and it may give you an idea of what is suitable for your needs.
