I think he is talking about the ExpressCard Slot in most notebooks. Official Home Page for ExpressCard Technology from PCMCIA
They stay pretty much empty these days due to everything being onboard now. My Dell E6400 doesn't have an ExpressCard slot because it has everything onboard including HDMI, SmartCard reader, LAN, Etc etc... | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 RC CPU Intel E6300 Motherboard eVGA 790i Ultra SLI Memory Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series 2 x 2GB PC3-12800 Graphics Card 2 X Nvidia 9800GT in SLi Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2001FPW Screen Resolution 1650x1050 (native) Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Silverstone Raven RVM01B PSU 600W OCZ StealthXtreme Case Silverstone PS02 Cooling Gelid Silent Spirit Hard Drives 2X WD800 74GB Raptor SATA

But have you ever noticed it is the exact size of a credit card? I don't recomend putting it there though. Anybody got a paper clip?
Last thing I used in a PCMCIA slot was a 56k modem, 4 laptops ago. Nowadays ppl use it for their Uber-slim mice or GSM/GPRS cards. I rely on Wi-Fi and Blackberry
