I've know about this scam for some time. But I honestly had no idea it had variations dating back that far until reading that article.

Its just adapted to the times.

Another MO of Nigerian scam

A year back I got one friend, a med practitioner who was in love with her Skype mate from US, and wanting to marry him. The man pretended to be in love with her and said about going to live with her, sending all expensive stuffs along with, several call from several places claiming her responsible for paying freight forwarders clearance otherwise she will miss the stuffs. Later she found out she was scammed but ended up black mailed for the man had already got many of her pictures in nudity thru skype and said will spread it to her friends in group.

Can't believe she lost at almost U$15k before reporting it to the police. She is definitely stupid (love made), but I feel pitty on her as the story spread out thru one local reporter of a cheap tabloid.
