    AMD and IBM


    why dont a firm with enough capital like IBM and techincal sources (or Sony etc) buy AMD and provide it with cash and technical know how needed for AMD to stay in business

    Because Intel is superior? And IBM wants to market it's Power processors?

    IBM and other capitalist for-profit organizations are not in the mercy business.

    That's for individuals, non-profits, churches, the Salvation Army, etc.

    I'd guess IBM or any of a hundred other corporations would buy AMD in a heartbeat if they thought it was a good business decision. The deafening silence you hear is their collective comment on AMD's viability in its current state.

    That may change if AMD's acquisition price continues to go lower. I'm sure all types of merger/acquisition people evaluate AMD constantly. Who knows, maybe someone is about to take the plunge.

    That could happen--4 years ago, you could have bought all of Ford and all of General Motors for less than it would have cost to buy Alcoa Aluminum.
