Turns out they were listening to coffee futures broadcasts, and the weather for South America. That continent being a competitor in the coffee bean world. He told us some of the triblespeople in New Guinea had become slightly wealthy and could afford nice watches. They used them as status symbols, but otherwise kept their culture.
