I must admit that I'm a bit of a stickler for correct spellings; in fact I often check the spellings of some words before I commit a post to be sent. Punctuation, on the other hand, I'm not entirely sure about and thus it may, or may not, be grammatically correct in any of my posts.

However, I'm not such a stickler to require all members to be able to spell correctly as I realise that, for many of them, English is not their first/primary language. So long as I can understand what they are saying, I'm not too bothered. I do draw the line, however, at Text Speech. This is perfectly fine where it belongs, but for me it doesn't belong here.

If someone whose native language is not English posts here, then I have the utmost respect for them and spelling and grammatical errors are not an issue. I don't know any other language well enough to read/post in a forum in that language, so who am I to criticize them?

On the other hand, I do get upset at those whose native language but their posts are full of spelling and grammatical errors.

I NEVER make grammatical or spelling errors . Any of those things you see in my posts are typos!!

Even those of us who do speak English, it is not all the same English. Note Guy's Yorkshire sayings. :)

It doesn't really pay to get mad at these kind of things, but with spell-chequers so common it is annoying when 'from' and 'form' and 'their' and 'there' are so easily missed - oh, and 'checkers' ...

Personally I hate it when even the slightest mistake gets posted but that is because I come from a different era when we seemed to have more respect for our language - it does tend to reflect what goes on between the ears after all - but I am as much human as the next (I think).

If it is a second or third language then forgiveness is much more forthcoming.

PS Britton30 beat me to one ...
