Windows 7: Free Websites

Free Websites

I saw a post here a few days ago about a site that offers free webspace.

Unlimited Free Web Hosting, Free Domains, Easy Website Builder

I tried to sign up for the free website but each time when it came time to check out, it wanted to charge $120.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

My requirements are simple:
Must be free, have FTP access and have no ads.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I've no idea about FTP access but I use a free one from Freewebs, it's the one I have to hold all my cross stitch photo's.

I checked the site and service atspace.com provides, and it is quite clear you have misunderstood something.

The free plan is really free, webhosting costs nothing but then you have to use a subdomain i.e. your URL would be Your_Preferred_Subdomain.atspace.eu (other available top level domains .cc, .co.uk and .tv):

Of course if you need / want your own URL for instance Your_Preferred_Domain.com, you have to pay the domain registration fees. Every service provider has to pay for domain name registration to a domain name registrar, so it is only logical they take the cost from you. I do not believe there exists an option to register a domain name for free, at least I have never heard of such.

Simply, if you need your own domain, you need to pay. Hosting you can get for free but not a domain.

GoDaddy is a good place to start searching, I believe you could get a domain name from GoDaddy with a few bucks a year.

When you get the domain name registered, use atspace.com website's control panel to transfer hosting to atspace. The you get what they promised to you: free website hosting.

I use GoDaddy. They're not free, but they are VERY inexpensive, and they frequently offer sales and discounts on their services. They are worth checking out, and when you speak with the salesperson, ask what sales and discounts are currently available.
