actually i didnt mind nigel, the mug belongs to my eldest lad.
i filled it because the cat was making " im thirsty" noises at me
she sits on the table and looks at the tap in the sink when there are things in the sink she shouts at me to sort it out.

My youngest cat - will only drink running water, I have to turn on the tap and he laps at the water stream, he turns up his nose at even fresh water or milk in any type of dish

They are, my new one is water crazy. If you put any cup or jug in the sink and then fill them with water she has to jump in and start moving them around with her paws or head, sloshing water out and usually managing to tip the vessel over so the water runs down the plughole.

If you try to run something under the tap she's there trying to bat the water away. You can guarantee if you start to run water she's there like a flash.
