The main reason why we haven't switched to the metric system is it would require a change to existing law. And since it would affect the entire country, the law would have to be changed at the federal level (by our congress and senate.) Need I expand on the probability of our government ever seeing eye to eye on something this earth-shattering? They can't even work out a budget!!!

...and maybe we just don't want to at the moment.

Maybe in another 50 years or so we will get a round tuit.

Well the only thing I'm comfortable with when it comes to metric is knowing money, that I can manage but I still tend to think in lbs and ozs and inches and feet etc. I'm also hopeless when it comes to temperatures, to me anything above 60°F is our Summer so it has to be hot.

No use telling me it's something or other °C as my poor brain can't take that in, if I need a cardi it's cold if I can manage in a t-shirt it's hot.

Not a very nice day to-day (very windy and wet). I am seeing if my old recovery disks still work.

Have some fond memories of Bemidji in the winter. Wouldn't mind being up there right now.

I am about a 100 miles south of Bemidji, but have been there many times. The winter temps where I am at are usually within a few degrees of Bemidji.

The metric system is easy, sensible. But culturally, people in the US are so accustomed to "inch, foot, yard, mile" that they're just stubborn about it. Also... if we change all manufactured products to be sized according to the metric system, then some yahoo will quibble about the roadway speed limit signs, highway mile markers, and that we should have KPH instead of MPH on our car speedometers.

At least we got folks to accept "liter" over "quart" when it comes to soda.
