My dad still has an external modem like that. I also have a student job at school and they still have 1 or 2 typwriters like the one pictured there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion g7-1350dx OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 CPU AMD A6-3420M APU Memory 4.0 Gb DDR3 838 MHz Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6520G Sound Card IDT HD Audio Screen Resolution 1900x 600 Hard Drives 500GB Hitachi HTS547550A9E384 |

We still have that dial up modem stored away somewhere here, exact same model except with a different label (it's not purple). Reminds me of the good times with the dial tones screaming with the fury of a thousand suns before we could surf the WWW.
I'd have thought slide rules would still be relevant though, especially in more mathematically inclined occupations. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number N/A (custom-built) OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7 2700K @ 3.5GHz (TurboBoost disabled) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 Memory 16GB (4x4GB) Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz @ 1333MHz Graphics Card Nvidia EVGA GeForce 560 Ti 448 Cores Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio (motherboard integrated) Monitor(s) Displays NEC Multisync EX231W Screen Resolution 1920x1080 @ 60Hz via DVI-D Keyboard Steelseries 6Gv2 Mouse Steelseries Sensei RAW Glossy, Logitech M500 PSU Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 Case Antec 300 Cooling Air-cooling Hard Drives 2x Western Digital 1TB SATA3 Caviar Black Internal HDD // 1x WD 500GB USB 3.0 "My Passport Essential" External HDD // 1x WD 1TB USB 3.0 "My Passport Essential" External HDD // 2x WD 2TB USB 3.0 "My Passport Essential" External HDD Internet Speed DSL Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials Browser Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Chromium, IE9 |

I still have my slide rule and its made out of bamboo. Hated those pagers. I'll be out running service calls and dispatch would page and then had to find a pay phone. US Robotics was the big dog in data for a number of years. I remember getting a 56k dial-up and waiting on my ISP to upgrade their side.
