Today I met an interesting person, a man is his late fifties. Runs a small business wit 10 or so employees, a three person office equipped with two old 486-computers, both running Windows NT4 and business software installed early -99. His son, the marketing director operates one computer and the secretary the other one. The man himself knows nothing about computers and IT, son knows how to use their specific software but that's it.

Now he wants to try Windows 7, he'd found a German computer magazine in a train when making a bit longer trip and having nothing to read. He's talked with his son (and mostly with the grandson) and wants now to invest some money to "catch up with the 21st century" (his own words).

I've never seen such an enthusiasm and keenness. It is going to be a rewarding project, even there naturally is no bigger earnings in sight.

Sometimes it feels good to be able to help.

What budget? Two or three simple workstations, a couple of lessons. Afterward I'll drink the profits one evening in the pub with this man, hoping we'll stay in touch. I've seen him once, today, and I'm already hoping we will stay in touch.

The only person who really understands and appreciates this thread now, is the Doc.
He doesn't know whether he is coming or going.
