Safeway-size asteroid to get closer to Earth than satellites

I will be safe a way watching from my backyard with my hood up on my coat. Are the Mayans trying to get back at the world the Safeway?

What, realistically, are our options if a large asteroid decides to hit? As far as I can tell, short of blowing it up (which can make things worse, as instead of one huge rock hitting us, we'll have several rocks/a cloud of them), there's nothing much else we can do. Except pray.

I'll probably chop down that tree the council planted in front of my house which has always been bothering me, get the last word in before we die.

Trucidation we can bend over and kiss our butts goodbye.
