    Ubuntu: Old versus New

Hi everyone, well I've been playing around with Ubuntu 12.04 for the last few days and I must say that even though it is free, it's not as much fun or as easy as the older versions were. The last time I mucked around with Ubuntu was a couple of years ago. It seems to me that they have let so many "players" and their free ideas that it has gotten ugly and actually harder to use! Or maybe I've been spoiled by Windows 7 to the point that I don't want to bother with another operating system and that definitely includes Windows 8. So I guess I'll just take Ubuntu off my machine and let the computer 'elites' have their Linux operating systems. By the way I tried "Linux Mint" and a couple other Ubuntu offshoots and was just as unimpressed by them!:) OK I'll stop. Just wanted to rant a little. Why are the linux people so rude when you ask a question or maybe it's just me.

The main problem with Ubuntu is the Unity desktop. You can improve it no end but using a lightweight desktop such as LXDE and it looks a lot more like Windows. Or better still dump it for Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.
