Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water this sort of crap comes up. Well if what it is saying is true and Windows is going to be tablet based then I for one will go Linux and they can stick it

With Windows Blue comes fear of desktop's demise | Microsoft - CNET News

I shall not be getting rid of my machines in my lifetime thats for sure as for those tablets what a crock.....
I own a great tablet.. they are quite limited with how much or what one can do with one.I too will hang on to what I have forever, if it's true , Windows may go to tablets. ( no more desktops )
Hum Lady Pink mate I don't think that just because Windows does not do desktops anymore means that there will be no desktops because as I said I shall go Linux they cannot stop me from doing that any more than they can stop me driving my car because someone or company dictates the availability of petrol to put in it - I'll just use diesel or liquid gas or even electric instead.

Frankly I think Gary got it right when he commented it is all about control over what you see and do just like TV went adverts and look at the wretched mess that is in now.

I think that M$ are trying to "force" us to use their systems and make us pay by the usage just like a tollway.
It is all about the almighty dollar lets face it and I think that this is a prime example of making a monopoly of system that in reality is something that we just cannot do without now - computing, and they jolly well know it. Well I suppose the people who made up the system have done what I think they set out to do and that is to own us, and chuff off and be as philanthropic as they like - what bunch of hypocrites.

Anyone who thinks I am a communist or suchlike is very wrong I believe in fairness for all - period. I just get very irked by the way of life as it stands right now and the double standards of some of these people who run these companies / corporations .

LOL! john no one thinks you're a communist at all mate. We are mad as hell and we won't take it anymore, eh? Windows will still be on desktop because 40-50 million users aren't going to buy some silly tablet or phone to do their computing. Can you see an office full of office people trying to type 100s of documents on a tiny tablet. Engineers won't use one for designs either.

Sure a lot of people have smart phones or tablets, but not for major work and production use. Mostly for emails or to maybe be in a video conference meeting.

Yes Gary I was going to say a lot more but thought better of it cos it is stuff like this that gets right up my nose I just do not like inequality but if I say any more I shall get carried away and just get myself really worked up for something I cannot do anything about.

Gary, you have about as much Discretion as a bull in a china shop, and I am going to ignore the fact that you posted that.

My Dear Wife (DW) with whom by the way, I co-celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary Sunday March 24th, is the one the Store Managers go to to unlock those damn tablets the store uses because the Store Manager's pets do not know how to use them.

So, if you ever see me use “D” in conjunction with "W" in any of my future replies or posts it will refer to Dear, unless I signify otherwise.

Darned right. Also, if you haven't already, be sure to get an extra retail copy or two while they still can be found. Rumor has it that dear, sweet M$ has been tightening up on reauthorizing OEM licenses.

John, you hit the nail on the head. I stocked up with a couple of extra Windows 7 licenses and an Office 2010 license for 3 users. In the future I will have my desktops custom built (if I need any). I would love to build them myself, but with my bad eyesight I cannot see the itty bitty screws, LOL.

And then there is always my Mint Mate which I love. One day I may run that as the host and Windows 7 as the guest for the few things where I have better programs in Windows.

Btw, since a few years I do not watch TV any more in the US. Cannot stand these commercials. We only have basic TV now because the wife wants to watch a few SODs. And she records them and skips the commercials.

In Germany that is different. There I have commercial free TV stations, lots of them and from a dozen countries.

    No offense meant Steve.
This does go to validate my occasional rant about people using abbreviations and acronyms that are uncommon thinking everyone will know what it is.
In my world DW would immediately be recognized as Darrel Waltrip, a NASCAR personality and former champion.
    again ,my apologizes.

Keep up the good work on space news!

I am still lost. What is actually meant by 'DW'. Can someone fill in a poor German that struggles with the English abbreviations.

It depends on who is using it but, usually, it means Dear Wife. It's a commonly used abbreviation on the RV forums, for example.
