I was reading a fiction book (John Dies At The End), and there's this creature from another dimension and it's worshipers ask, why do you build computers when your brains are computers themselves?

Few of that kind are used to process data. Most are only there to control the limbs.

To the best of my memory a long while back someone had a Bactria or Virus method of moving information but because of temperature effects it couldn't work in the range needed.
