Nearby supernova will light up the sky for a week, grant insight into dark energy

Quote:
An enormously bright event has both amateur stargazers and hardened physicists buzzing this week.

The event, which occurred in the nearby M82 “Cigar” galaxy, will light up the sky for some time to come. It has been identified as a supernova, but thanks to both what and where it is, this explosion could do a lot more for humanity than just sparkle and dance. Thousands of telescopes both professional and amateur will be trained on its location over the coming month or so, collecting data that could even help to clarify the nature of dark energy and the universe.

The visible light from this event could continue to be visible for up to several weeks, and at its peak it could be visible with as little as a pair of binoculars. Its position is directly above Ursa Major.

PHOTOS: Giant Snowballs Mystify Onlookers in Ohio

Quote:
Giant nature-made snowballs have been spotted across Pennsylvania and Ohio this week, mystifying onlookers unfamiliar with the meteorological phenomenon.
The rare snowballs, called snow rollers, are formed when gusty winds roll snow along the ground, similar to how snow might be rolled to create a snowman. The result, however, is typically cylindrical and hollow.

Why John, I had no idea you were interested in Astronomy. Good Show!

I've downloaded the origami template to see if I can make the model, but with the super bowl on it may take me till tomorrow to post a pix of it.

That is a beauty, I find it peaceful and relaxing observing the night sky. I bought this type a RV-6 Dynascope second hand about 25years ago and enjoy every moment I have with it, when its not cloudy or raining.

Troll Science
I thought this idea was pretty funny. Probably one of the very few 4chan memes worth porting over to SevenForums, as it isn't TOTALLY stupid (also doesn't contain offensive images). The idea is to post science scenarios that would never work but have some logic in how it might work. Troll Science...
