Linux or Windows - What difference does it make?

Linux has been favourite on servers and Windows on desktops.

But I really don't understand what difference does it make to use any OS for a PC for general use. After all a general user is not concerned with how the OS works.

Its all done to personal preference really. I love Linux and would use it solely if my CAD software ran on it. As it is though I am bound to Windows.
