I'm all for google paying for the internet, as long as it means it'll be free to the user, as in No more ISP fees
The net is all ready be paid for by all of us using it. We all pay for access. Advertisers pay serious money to various sites.
I think the problem is that some governments want the users (me and you) and companies like Google to pay the government instead of the ISP's. They want to be able to apply taxes to users according to the amount of usage. Once governments get their greedy little foot in the door they can control content and access as they see fit. The access and contents of the Internet will change from election to election in each country if by chance they even have elections.
Government control equals taxes to all.
Government taxes equals control over all.
Could this Forum stay alive if every time some one accessed this Forum their was a charge for usage. I'm quite sure the owners of this Forum pay a lot of money for the bandwidth it takes to run this Forum. The question is who gets the money. The government, who provides nothing or the ISP who provides the bandwidth for a fee.
Many will think that the government only wants to get money from the big fish like Google or Bing and a few more; no no no.
The governments will look down stream and look at the billions of small fish (me,you and Forms like this) for more revenue.
Google pretty much already pay for the internet, almost every site of reasonable size runs adsense which pays for running costs etc.
z3r010 you know a bunch more on this subject than I do but I don't think that the question is how much Google pays already as much as it is who Google pays. Some governments would like to join the Who List.
