High School grade scales .. Do you remember

Ok, this is bugging me a little and Im not sure if my memory is failing me, or I expect to much. Either way, here goes.

It's been a very long time since I was in high school, just over 20 years ago. But I remember when it came to grade scales, around 70% you were borderline failing. (I think it was anything below 70% meant you failed, possibly 68% Anyone remember)

At any count, around here, a high school student can score a 60% on a test and its considered passing. ??????
Im pretty sure in my day and age that meant you FAIL. See next year.

They aren't considered as failing unless they score 59% or lower.

So am I remembering this incorrectly or are they making it easier for kids these days?

Where I was at school 45% was a pass, 44% a fail. 70% was considered pretty good. It depends entirely on the system used.

I dare say the standards are being relaxed. It makes the education stats look better.

If I remember correctly schools and teachers are also graded on the passing marks of their students. The more that pass the bigger the bonus checks and the more money the school system gets from the federal government.
I do expect this might have a lot to do with the standards.
