What really bites my ample asset is the number of news sites, businesses, even forums, etc. that assume most, if not all people are on Facebook. Thank God I'm retired because many employers now demand access to employees', especially prospective employees', social media accounts and are very suspicious of those who do not have them.

If you have no reason to use Facebook, then that's fair enough.

But when nearly 50% of Internet traffic will have a Facebook account, I don't see the problem with websites adding features such as Facebook Connect to their websites.
It's not merely the adding of a Facebook link or login as an option that's the issue; it's when places limit their accessibility to Facebook only. I feel discriminated against for having a life, real friends, and preferring to not expose myself to the risks of an unsecure website. Most news sites now require a social media login to be able to comment. Often, the only way to get coupons or other special offers is through Facebook.
I've yet to see a website limit access to Facebook only people, and I can't see a website doing that, while despite I did say nearly 50% of Internet users have a Facebook account, a website would still be blocking out the other half. Majority of News sites I frequent will have their own login system, or have a handful of other platforms you can use to login with (Facebook, Twitter, Google, Discuss, and then maybe their own Login) If you don't have any of the accounts, and Discuss is available, I suggest using that as it's not a social media platform.

And to say that having a Facebook account == not having a life is quite a bold statement to make, and quite offensive. Companies running offers through Facebook isn't Facebook's fault, either. It's most likely marketing from the company to promote their Facebook page, or something. If you have a problem with that, then take it up with the respective company, instead of taking it out on Facebook, and people who use Facebook/

I don't have FB and never will. It is evil. People have lost their jobs using it. Students get in fights over it. It is a black mark on the NET.

On the other hand, I've met lots of school friends and family members who were not nearby otherwise. It all depends on how sane you are!
