Chicago Sun-Times Lays Off Entire Photo Staff, Will Give Reporters iPhoneography Training

The Chicago Sun-Times, one of the remnants of traditional paper journalism, has let go its entire photography staff of 28 people. Now its reporters will start receiving “iPhone photography basics” training to start producing their own photos and videos.

The move is part of a growing trend towards publications using the iPhone as a replacement for fancy, expensive DSLRs. It’s a also a sign of how traditional journalism is being changed by technology like the iPhone and the advent of digital publishing.

I would of drifted to an ipad more than a iphone as a device which would be used for such things as writing articles and pic's but it didn't say if the iphone 5 was being used which the 5 hasn't had very good review I've seen any way,
It's also questionable if it's in every bodies pocket/ possibly they were pointing at there minimal staff now
It won't be in my pocket in a few months when I move to an android.

I wonder how much the quality of the images will suffer, or, will they clean up their images with Aperture?

This is bad news, not only are they getting rid of valued professional photographers, but their quality of work will also suffer due to 8mp small sensors.
