    Satellite TV IS CONFUSING ME.

I requested 1 additional TV hook up with a standard DVD from DirecTV (the only game in town). We already have 2 TVs hooked up and they work fine, local channels included. The installer is here and he brought a HD DVR and is now changing out the antenna to a HD receiver. The service rep says this is necessary in order to get local channels.

What.......????? We get local channels already. They assure me that there will be no additional charges....well, that will be a wait and see.

Can some one explain to me why the upgrade is necessary? Because if what they are telling me is correct it would seem that the other 2 DVRs should be upgraded as well. I am confused.

It would of been at this point that I would have asked the installer if he would please double check the service ticket, and see if he was at the right address (your street address).

If it was the right address then I suspect the order was not written up properly, and I would have stopped the install until this was straightened out.

You can still call DirecTV (DTV) customer service to check into it, I'm checking my old cell phones to see if I still have the phone numbers that will keep you inside the continental United States, but I have to wait until they charge back up.
I'm not sure if these will help: DirecTV Phone Numbers - Compared | Fastest | Best | GetHuman.com

Did the installer arrive in a DTV marked van or was it unmarked? Unmarked means he was a sub-contractor.

Unless DTV has some new policy I don't see the necessity of it, he may have only had the HD DVR on his truck and that's what you got just to satisfy the order and it needs the HD dish to make the HD DVR work properly.

Do you notice any black areas around the picture on your standard (SD) tv's?

We used to have DTV for 14years, back when it was Hughes USSB, about the only thing I didn't like was when it would get covered with snow in the Winter I'd have to go out and clean off the dish and I always knew when we were about to get hit with a bad thunderstorm in the Summer, if the storm was over 14,000feet we would lose the signal. We eventually switched to fios for better prices.

I'll post back after those old phones charge up and I can check them.

    Update:

I found that stay in the USA number for DTV: It's 1-800-942-2788, #8 on the GetHuman list
