    1984 / 2084 and George Orwell

    Hi there
What is it with TWITTER that people have to try and have meaningful conversations in 140 characters or less.

I don't know if any of you have read George Orwell's 1984 - and with his morphing of the English language into "Newspeak" where any sort of abstract thought would be eliminated - not by political decree - but simply because the language would have been stripped out of any possibility of expressing these sentiments.

With things like Twitter (and what's the name of that other ridiculous site why you can launch a video of up to 6 secs) I think by 2084 George Orwell's forecast will have come true - not via Political persuasion but by the use of all these social media systems forcing people to communicate using smaller and smaller chunks of information.

Will we soon stop seeing decent novels (can be in e-book form) because people just have forgotten how to string more than two sentences together.

Seeing kids these days on their phones / ipads etc communicating like this - even when they are in the same room as each other makes me wonder if it will even take as long as 2084 to reach the "Newspeak" idea.
