    Windows 7 & Web Hosting

So, I've been thinking quite a bit.

Can you turn windows 7 into a "web host" with a domain attached to it?

so instead of 64.20.96.256 (Example) you get, www.sfisawesome.com.

I'm positive you can host a site, but for the domain, I'm not sure.

    Answers? Please?

To get your own domain you would need to register the name with a domain registry service. There is a yearly fee for this. If you plan on hosting your own site before to check with your ISP first as many will not permit this with a standard account. There are also some serious security issues.

I think I might just upgrade the RAM, and toss a VMWare of Linux or Server 2012 Data Center on my desktop. My school blocks 95% of the websites I go too.

I recently had to get SF/EF and a few other techie sites on the allowed list because the information was "questionable" to the Data center IT guys. I quickly explained how educational it is for a cisco person. :)

Anyways, I'll probably end up doing a VMWare of it, and limit the amount of physical ram it gets to use. My desktop will serve as a host until I can replace my fried SSD on my Server
