Old PC - What OS to put on it?

I have an old, but still perfectly functional PC which I want to put a new OS on. Here are the specs:

    768 MB single-channel SDRAM
    Cyrix M II CPU @ 300 MHz
6.4 GB HDD (I do have a spare 30 GB HDD which would work too)
    ATI Rage Fury video card
    OS: Windows 98SE

I am debating on putting some form of Linux or BSD on it... or maybe even React OS (open source Windows clone, based on Windows Server 2003).

I will stick to Win98 SE. That is the best OS.

Depends what you want to use it for. There are plenty of lightweight Linux distros.

I'd go with Linux Mint. That's what I used to run a P3 with 248MB ram.

Windows 3.1 as you would be only doing it to prove you can as the machine is pretty much worthless.

Tbh save yourself the trouble and just put it in the trash.

    ditto.
But as Z3 says (unless you are cash strapped) dump it or keep it as a heritage item. I'm serious here. I have an old PC which I have kept for "heritage" value but would never use it for anything useful.
