Broadband more expensive in the US - that's a surprise

    Hi there
Normally whenever I'm in the US things seem so much cheaper (at least to me) than in most other places that I was really surprised to read this from the BBC -- usually a reliable source of info showing that in some parts of the US Broadband is hideously expensive.

I know that in the past I was frustrated by what seemed their archaic old mobile phone system and a Banking system that still seemed rooted in the old "Wells Fargo days" but everything else seemed to be cheap, available and decently well run.

I do read on the Forums that a lot of people in the US have quite small usage caps - a bit ridiculous when streaming HD video -- in Europe there are loads of unlimited usage contracts around too.

BBC News - Why is broadband more expensive in the US?

    Cheers

Sucks I know, we got a cap of 150gb -_- seem to go over at times like 50gbs or so. Hate cause then we pay extra and forces me not download anything at all most of the time which is why I only got like 4 games installed from steam since that what usually makes me pass our cap or when watching movies a lot. I really hate at&t but we don't got much in my area besides comcast but it's more expensive and dish and verzion and other cellphone companies offering internet for the computer but their caps are even smaller.

It's even worse in the US if you live in a rural area. I work from home so my company foots the bill but I have a 4Mb up/down connection (no data cap) that costs $138/month!

I'll bet cell phone plans are much less expensive in other countries as well. I'm fortunate that I have an unlimited data plan on my Verizon phone. Verizon doesn't do unlimited plans anymore so I will hang on to my plan as long as I can. Download speeds vary greatly but I've gotten up to 20Mb downloads using on my 4G phone.

I am another one of those who live in a rural area with limited options. Verizon Wireless works well in my area, but it is very expensive for the amount of data you get. I keep hoping that some day a cheaper viable option will become available in my area.
