This whole episode tells that the employer, or rather the immediate bosses have done their job not too well. I mean, a boss must know his / her staff; if you get 4 geeks through all those preliminary rounds Dinesh have told us, it almost automatically means that any one of four would have been capable and qualified to do the job.

When the circus ends by telling that the position will not be filled and that all four went through the process for nothing, the biggest loser will be the employer.

Today I realised exactly how elderly my mother is, she is fast approaching 88, but has always hidden her age and it's related ailments, from everyone so well. Today she decided to go to the local supermarket on her own to place her bi-weekly food order for delivery, as no family member was available to accompany her, as is usual - She has just been on the phone to me, in floods of tears, due to having insufficient funds at the checkout, to cover the contents of her trolley, mostly due to her failing eyesight, which left her totally distraught and embarrassed .

The staff were wonderful, this is something they see from all ages many times a day, but to a woman of that generation it's a major failure

A family conference will be forthcoming, to ensure that arrangements are in place to ensure she is accompanied in future, in a way that retains her dignity

It's a tricky situation Nigel, one I went though 20 years ago with my mother. There is no easy answer you just have to play it by ear.

Independence is a hard thing to give up,

My suggestion after the subject is mentioned to her in private, .. is wait for her
to say something, if she refuses , or remains quiet, then ask if she is doing well
when she shops, etc.,.. ask how it's going, then try to give her time to think
about it, don't rush her.. this is just a beginning.If you feel she is antagonized
by this conversation, it's okay to now change this subject.

You will want to revisit this at a future time.

I'm still working part-time , yet this same conversation will come to me before many years, as I'm not too far behind your Mother in age.

Whatever you do do NOT make her feel less than your Mother whom you love dearly.

This is my own opinion,
having watched my Mother and her sister have to deal with my aged Grandad.( 95yrs )

Today I my dear Team Finland beat USA in bronze game in Olympic ice-hockey tournament 5 to 0 (zero, nada!)! Well done Team Finland!

I just hope that Canada seriously kicks some Swedish a** in tomorrow's final, the 2 to 1 loss against our arch enemy Sweden in semifinals will hurt my soul and heart a long time.
