Today I said farewell to my grandmother.

She passed away last Monday, according to the doctor she died peacefully in her sleep somewhere between 11PM and 3AM.

I am truly at a loss of words. No one in my family expected this to happen.. She was as healthy as a 91 year old could be, she went walking and biking on a daily basis and at parties she always was the centre of attention. Despite smoking at least two packs a day and drinking a tad more than was good for her she could've lived to see 100. But she didn't. Instead she died of a heart attack in her sleep.

She had a very nice ceremony today, in total over 750 people came to show their final respects. I have been awake for over five days now, trying to come to senses with what has happened. And today when we, the grandchildren, carried her coffin to the oven (she wanted to be cremated) after the ceremony, I finally understood that it was the last time that I was going to see her.

Rest in peace, grandma, and thank you for everything you have done for me. You will be missed.

It's very sad to see a close relative go Stefan but it comes to all of us. As you get to my age it happens all the time but you still don't get used to it. Please don't make yourself ill over this. Get the sleep you need.

Sorry to hear of your loss Stefan, I'm sure she wouldn't want you to make yourself ill through lack of sleep. Be joyful and think of all the good times you had with her and how much she loved life. :)

I'm sorry for your loss Stefan. If it is any condolence, living 91 years while still enjoying yourself and your vices. Then passing away peacefully in your sleep, is as good a way to go as I can imagine. You would have all loved for her to have lived longer, but she never suffered through a long illness, or infirmity. I hope you can celebrate how she lived, and get through the tough times. A Guy
