I was hoping people might not know the term for that style of clamping lid jar.

personally i think its a kilner jar , but that may be a different country thing.

i think mason jars have screw on lids that come apart.
kilners have the metal clip mechanism.

Scrap?

It is a brand name thing - like Coke for dark soft drinks/sodas.

All Mason jars used to have the clamp style lid, then they moved on to screw on types. In these parts, even other brands of jars are called Mason jars. I've never heard of Kilner. That brand as a term has not made the trip across the pond.
