Want to listen to MP3s thru speakers - w/o PC

When I'm in the kitchen or doing whatever I'm away from the desktop PC which is in another room. I like to listen to something rather than silence. So I have a radio. But i'd rather listen to MP3 talks from youtube etc via external speakers inside the house.

I have no need for a notebook except maybe for this. What else can I use? Can an iphone or samsung galaxy hook up to external speakers for example? Can I buy wireless PC speakers that can transmit from one room to another?

How would you guys get sound for the kitchen area etc? (N.B. I'm sick of head phones.)

Bluetooth from the PC to speakers is one option. Not sure on the working distance for Bluetooth but I know it works from one end of my house to the car in the garage.

If not Bluetooth there are other wireless speaker options. The units they sell for wireless from a TV to remote speakers is another option.
