I had gotten lucky and got the Lumia 1520 Windows Phone for $99 with a 2 year contract. I was already on contract with a Galaxy S2, so it was pretty much just a phone upgrade for me than a service upgrade.

But being on a 2 year contract in the long run you will have paid full price for the phone that is why i am opting for my own phone and will use a cheap service like Metro PCS $40 a month and no caps on anything i even have wifi calling on the Alcatel One touch

So i guess the point here is if you have a decent provider that offers no contract you are better off and with being better off you are not forced to use a phone they give you as well

I suppose the only real difference in a Top High End phone is their Ridiculous features that most likely will never be used ,I think this should encourage people to look around and to invest in their own phone and use a straight plan that doesn't ever change

I bought this Lumina 521 W8P which sells for $69 (no contract). It does everything I would ever need - and more. A beautiful device.

I did not bother to get a carrier contract and do all my calls via VoIP for 1.2 cents/minute (US and to and from Europe). This is the only area where Android is better. Calling with Google Voice costs nothing.

Buy Nokia Lumia 521 No Contract for T-Mobile - Microsoft Store

That's a nice looking phone Wolfgang

This is the model i am waiting on right now it also comes with the upgrade to Kitkat OS

I am more attracted to the Camera and Video performance over general use this is my new Camera

The camera on the Lumia is OK but you would not win any prizes with it. I have 4 cameras so that was not what I was looking for. There are few phones that can compete with real cameras - especially not in this price range.

For me the thing is just a toy. I did not really need a phone. For the 5 calls I make each month I can use the landline or the VoIP. Here is where VoIP is handy because our landline is without any contract also - just local calls. I would hate to pay year round fees when I am only a few months per year in the country.

That's the beauty of a smart phone though if you have no phone service Wifi connect to the internet you can still do things with it and still get in touch with people

I have to say with people coming out on this subject it's clear that only Hipsters run after the best

Right, I really do not understand people who pay a fortune for a phone. I would rather get a new desktop for that money or make a vacation.

Considering this ,I should be happy with my next purchase if i choose to get another it is only for the reason to upgrade for me and the wife possibly her mom and not have to worry for 3 years at least my last phone works great and now my mom has it

Pretty much you treat it right it will last

Thank you all for commenting and opinions really makes a clearer picture when looking for a device and what is a decent price to performance ratio i think i've done pretty good

I am writing a follow up on my Smartphone Thread

Right now i am currently using Blu Life Play X $184.00 to 179.00 on Ebay and Amazon

This phone is pretty amazing for it being a A7 Cortex Quadcore 1,5Ghz 1Gb ram 16GB internal space 9.89 Usable OS and system use 6GB

The Camera 8mp/ 2mp front with Geo tagging and Auto focus flash is very sweet pictures come out crisp and vibrant just like i imagined

I even bought a nice sexy case for it and everything here is the kicker though lol I am going to forward this phone at the end of the month to my wife and give her mom the phone i swapped her out with couple weeks ago basically i am doing a full upgrade to everyone's phone but yet i am getting a very beastly phone for the money

So the phone i really want Blu Life Pure XL will be 399.00 pretty much the last month i will have spent 600.00 + total on top notch Quadcore phones which all have a 4.7 to 5 inch screen and Vanilla Jellybeans 4.2.1 with hopefully Kitkat update next month

So with the money spent you would probably ask me was it worth it and why did i need to go through all these phones just to purchase the phone i really want down the road

My answer is simple with all the testing and buying exclusive phones online that are not sold in stores with specs and features that compare to one $600+ phone was very worth it we own our phones not ties to a contract and hell all you need is a SIM /GSM carrier and you are sweet also these phones should last a few years before a upgrade is needed

I officially opt for Blu phones Unlocked very worth the money and i have three powerful phones that i get to pass on my wife and mother in law and their only couple weeks old
