GM all .....Joan hi thanks for replying , All day yesterday my home page msn.. lagged all day , at times just plain jittery acting up,
then last evening when I made my way here, MSN just plain refused to open..
When it finally did open , all I had was a single column down the left side of the whole page.
I hope it is MSN doing some updating.
I meant to add , all the other websites seemed to work fine.

Has it sorted itself out now ? As you say maybe MSN are doing some maintenance. I don't really stay on the home page long enough so perhaps that's why I've not noticed anything. I just open my browser and then usually start going to whatever site is first on my list, there are times I'll stay on it for awhile looking what's on it for that day and may click on something to follow the story through.

Hope everything clears up for you.

There are sites that you can use to see if sites are down:
Down For Everyone Or Just Me -> Check if your website is down or up?

This one is more comprehensive and has some tips and complaints in comments:
Msn.com - Is MSN Down Right Now?

    To check Microsoft's status:
    https://service status.live.com/Microsoft Services

This Bloggers' site deals mainly with sites that are down and if it is a corrupted msn cookie in your browser and what he says is true about the landing page this could be a reoccurring problem unless you have your browser set to check web pages and update them.

Open Internet Explorer; Go to Tools >Internet Options >General Tab >Browsing history settings >Choose either one of the settings under Check for newer versions of stored pages, but don't check never >OK, Apply your way out.

What's happening here is every time msn tries to fix the issue with the landing page it won't match the cookie you have stored in your browser the next time you go to visit. And you will get a hang unless you have the browser set to check. Its not infallible, but the setting should help.

MSN.com Not Working In Internet Explorer

Since the beginning of March, many internet users have been unable to successfully load the MSN.com homepage into their browsers. Although many of the reported issues have come from Internet Explorer users, the problem extends to Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and other browser types.

Please note, that this appears to be an issue with the code on the MSN.com landing page, and does not necessarily mean that anything is wrong with your computer.

There are a few different things that a user can try to either fix the problem or work around it.

Source: Free PC Services: MSN.com Not Working In Internet Explorer
The first part of the fix is pretty straight forward with deleting the History, Cookies and Temporary Files, if you decide to go on to manually check for any leftover msn cookies its easier than what Scott lets on.

Once you finish step #2 in finding the cookies manually an Explorer window will open, in the upper right corner there is a search box that will say Search Temporary Internet Files, type msn into that box, and the search will automatically start.

If there are any cookies that relate to the msn site delete all that is found, you can either do them individually or highlight the first one, press the shift key and highlight the last, in either case right click within the highlight to open the context menu, then left click on delete.

    Test the msn page.

The: http://dell.msn.com/ workaround is a re-direct that should also send you to the msn page, it did for me.

What you could try is save the re-direct near where you save your main msn favorite and the next time your main refuses to load, try the re-direct and see if it works.

Thanks for your replies.. I've tried a few of these.. deleted all the old stuff..at times
I hate myself after deleting things.. I've had a very hard time finding those again.
Of course my home page still doesn't look like it did all modern,
it's back to before IE 10 on my windows 8 pc.
I keep a rather clean pc.. I run CCleaner every other day before closing... And
All my programs that keep me safe from the junk out there
    Thanks to you all again.

Joan thank you so very much.. things may be a bit better today.. I still have the older version of MSN.com ....I liked the Newer look home page with my Windows 8 ....IE 10,
at least I can get around using this for now. I do think they are making some changes..
sure can be a mess for us who use it.
    Thanks much,
    :)

You may need to do a : Internet Explorer - Reset
But if you follow step #5 it could be problematic in that it will remove personal info such as passwords and form data, and you would have to rebuild that.

hi..I'm noticing things seem to be a bit better.. some parts of the MSN page are beginning to return the Windows 8 look. leads me think it's work they are doing.
I will try the reset if this hangs on awhile longer. I've used it before.. works great.
Thanks so much for your help.
